Former national team hockey player Redlihs: a system of consequences is needed for parental aggression in youth hockey

Aggression has broken out during a game of young ice hockey players in Latvia, with the children's parents also getting involved. Some of them stepped onto the ice to express their dissatisfaction and ended up in a physical conflict. The incident has become one of the most discussed topics in Latvian sport recently.

The matter was addressed in an interview with the programme "Sporta Studija" by life coach Jēkabs Redlihs, who previously played for the Latvian national hockey team. He described how he sees the situation from his own perspective and explained where such behaviour and the feeling that anything is allowed come from.

Redlihs stresses that such cases require a system of consequences, meaning a clearly defined procedure that sets accountability for aggressive behaviour at children's sporting events.

The source gives no further details about how the incident unfolded, which teams were involved or what steps may follow.
