Former Finnish PM: Russian drone strike hit train traveling alongside hers from Kyiv

A former Finnish prime minister has visited Ukraine about ten times since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, but her most recent trip stood out for how tense the situation was. According to her, this visit brought more air raid alerts than any of her earlier trips to the country.

Drone hits neighboring train

On the route from Kyiv toward the Polish border, a Russian drone struck a train that was traveling in the same direction alongside the train carrying the former prime minister. The incident illustrates how dangerous rail travel has become in Ukraine, where trains remain the main available way to travel for both residents and foreign visitors.

Despite the experience, the former Finnish prime minister stressed that once back home she feels safe. "I can return to Finland and feel safe," she said, pointing to the contrast between life in Finland and the daily reality faced by people in Ukraine.

Her repeated trips to Ukraine since the invasion began reflect a sustained engagement with the country's wartime situation. The rising number of air raid alerts and the direct strike on a train near her own route suggest that Russian attacks continue to reach areas close to Ukraine's western border, which had previously been seen as comparatively safer.
