The International Tennis Integrity Agency has imposed a four-year ban on former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova for refusing to provide a sample during a doping control. The 26-year-old Czech refused to submit to testing at 8 p.m. on December 3, last year, at a location she had specified. Under anti-doping rules, a refusal is equivalent to a doping violation.

The ban, effective immediately, will run until June 21, 2030. In her testimony, Vondrousova cited stress, poor psychological condition, and safety concerns as reasons for her decision. While the tribunal acknowledged these factors, it determined that the evidence did not provide a compelling justification for the test refusal.

Vondrousova won Wimbledon in 2023 and reached a career-high ranking of No. 6. She has not competed in any tournaments since mid-January, prior to the doping control incident.
