Vēvers, Peļņiks, Brilte and Dardets claim wins at Biķernieki track season finale

The Biķernieki track hosted the closing races of the road cycling season on Wednesday, combining an individual time trial, a 70km sport-class group race and a 44km amateur-class group race.

Individual time trial

Across the various age and category groups, wins went to Roberts Plūme, Alise Mestere, Samanta Luberte, Gabriels Ļaudams, Samanta Roziņa, Artūrs Jorens Norvaišs, Linda Brilte, Dace Muižniece-Zariņa, Marina Brēmane, Egīls Peļņiks, Ričards Jākobsons, Gints Bukovskis and Daniels Cipulis, each posting the best time in their respective category. Several winners confirmed the form they showed at the recent Latvian championships, while other categories saw the standings shuffle compared to the national title races.

Sport-class group race

In the 70km race (13 laps of 5.5km), Agris Vindecs and Filips Jezumans broke away after the fourth lap, building a 45-second lead over the main group by halfway. By the ninth lap the peloton had cut the gap to 25 seconds and soon caught the two leaders. At the start of the final lap Edvards Vēvers launched an attack with Ģirts Harkins following him, and the two settled the win between themselves, with Vēvers coming out on top. Harkins took second and Ričards Hansons finished third. Among women, Santa Sanija Jurgena took first place.

Amateur-class race

In the 44km race (8 laps of 5.5km), a three-rider group of Artūrs Fotins, Alekss Dardets and Daniels Cipulis formed on the second lap, holding a half-minute lead by the midpoint and extending it further. At the finish, Dardets proved fastest, ahead of Fotins and Cipulis. In the women's race, Dace Muižniece-Zariņa took the win.

Team standings

In the men's team classification, Atom Cycling club finished first, RRS took second, and Velo+ Botari Baltic edged out InfoEra/Auto CAD for third in a close contest. Among women's teams, Junda racing — whose lineup included luge athlete Kendija Aparjode — won ahead of Latvian Cycling girls.
