Bill Guerin Named NHL General Manager of the Year
Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin has been awarded the Jim Gregory Trophy as the NHL's best general manager for the past season.

Bill Guerin, general manager of the Minnesota Wild, has been named the NHL's General Manager of the Year for the past season, receiving the Jim Gregory Trophy for the first time in his career.
During the regular season, the Wild accumulated 104 points, the seventh-best total in the league. In the Stanley Cup playoffs, they reached the second round, where they lost 4-1 to the Colorado Avalanche.
At the start of last season, Guerin signed the largest contract in NHL history, an eight-year, $136 million deal with forward Kirill Kaprizov, worth $17 million per season. During the season, he acquired defenseman Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks and added Bobby Brink, Jeff Petry, and Nick Foligno to the roster.
In voting conducted among team general managers, league officials, and media representatives, Guerin received 131 points, eight ahead of Chris MacFarland of the Avalanche. The award had been won by Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill for the previous three seasons.
