Bitcoin Rebounds After Volatile Week as Sources Disagree on $78,000 vs $80,000 Price
Bitcoin continued recovering on Friday after a week shaped by the Fed's rate decision and a failed Senate vote, though sources disagree — some cite a price around $78,000, while others report it surpassed $80,000.
Bitcoin nears a key level again, but sources disagree on the exact price
On Friday, September 18, bitcoin continued to recover after a week shaped by a U.S. Federal Reserve decision and a failed Senate vote. Sources disagree on the exact current price: Money Times and GlobeNewswire both cite a level around $78,000 ($77,953 and $77,963 respectively), while Brazilian outlet Valor Econômico reports that bitcoin surpassed $80,000 on Friday, reaching $80,330.56, up 4.3% for the week.
What drove the swings
Earlier in the week bitcoin fell to roughly $75,900–$76,000 after the U.S. Senate failed to advance the broader crypto market-structure bill known as the Clarity Act, according to Money Times. The following day the Fed raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 3.75–4%, a move analysts say was already priced in and which allowed the price to recover. Fed official Kevin Warsh said inflation remains too high but that financial conditions could not be called restrictive. Valor Econômico adds that sentiment was further supported by progress on a bill establishing a strategic government bitcoin reserve in the House Financial Services Committee, and by an SEC exemption for trading tokenized U.S. assets.
Conflicting data on ETF flows
Sources give differing pictures of bitcoin ETF flows. Money Times reports that after outflows of $450 million and $296 million on September 15 and 16, spot bitcoin ETFs saw an inflow of $159 million on September 17. Valor Econômico, however, states that cumulative outflows exceeded $420 million through Thursday, with the market heading toward a second consecutive week of net redemptions.
Altcoins and other central banks
Several altcoins outpaced bitcoin's gains on Friday — Hyperliquid rose as much as 13%, while Zcash posted the week's biggest gain, over 33%. Solana/SUI, XRP, BNB and ether all rose by several percent on the day, though exact figures vary slightly between sources. Elsewhere, the Bank of Japan raised its rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%, while the Bank of England kept its rate unchanged at 3.75%.
Context from smaller projects
Against this backdrop, press releases also highlighted a smaller payments project, Remittix, which claims its RTX token presale has reached 82.33% (per GlobeNewswire) or 82.23% (per openPR) of its target, at a price of $0.21 per token. This information comes from the project's own published materials and press releases rather than independent sources.
