Blizzard reveals new StarCraft game, but it won't arrive until 2030
At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard unveiled a new StarCraft title described as a story-driven open-world shooter, though release is set for spring 2030.
Blizzard used BlizzCon 2026 to unveil a cinematic trailer for a new entry in the StarCraft franchise, confirming years of speculation about the series' return. The upcoming title, currently known simply as StarCraft, has been described by the studio as a story-driven open-world shooter.
This marks the franchise's first new release since 2017, when a remaster of the original StarCraft came out, and 16 years since StarCraft II launched. In its announcement, Blizzard acknowledged that fans have long been waiting for a new installment in the series.
A long wait ahead
While the game's existence is now confirmed, players will have to wait quite a while to actually play it — Blizzard stated the title is scheduled for release in spring 2030, nearly four years from now.
Rumors about various StarCraft shooter projects have circulated for years, with several earlier attempts reportedly cancelled during development. The most recent mention of such a project surfaced in 2024. With this new game effectively serving as StarCraft 3, more details about gameplay and story are expected to emerge as development continues.
Blizzard's announcement teased that the story would take players far from the reaches of known space on a new mission.
