Bluesky adds a moderation inbox to its app

Social network Bluesky has launched a beta moderation inbox that gathers a user's reports, actions against their account and account standing. The feature is meant to make communication with users easier.

Social network Bluesky has begun rolling out a new beta feature in its app: a moderation inbox. It brings together, in one place, the reports a user has filed about other accounts and posts, actions taken against their account, and their overall standing on the platform. The change matters because moderation decisions were previously communicated mainly by email.

How to enable it

Users can turn on beta features in the app's Settings menu and then find the inbox under the Moderation tools menu. Bluesky says the inbox will start out empty, even for people who have already received a strike. It will fill up as users file new reports and as the company acts against their account or applies labels to their posts.

Most Bluesky decisions can be appealed directly in the app. Suspensions, however, still have to be appealed at the login screen.

Why the approach changed

The company says email made it hard to reach people who use Bluesky on independent servers, and that it often emailed only about serious decisions. The inbox lets Bluesky notify anyone using the app and share each step of a moderation process without cluttering email inboxes.

Earlier criticism

Bluesky is known for strong blocking tools that help users moderate their own feeds, but its own moderation approach has drawn criticism. In 2025, The Guardian reported that the platform's automated spam system regularly deactivated accounts of Palestinians who were crowdfunding for supplies, which critics said treated them like bots. Users also objected to how posts about the assassination of Charlie Kirk were moderated.

Alongside the moderation inbox, the latest app update adds an optional home-screen widget that shows trending topics.
