German carmaker BMW is expanding its electric Neue Klasse range with the iX4, a sporty crossover with a coupe-like body.

Versions and power

Two variants will be available at first. The iX4 40 xDrive delivers 275 kW (374 hp) and 520 Nm, accelerating to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The iX4 50 xDrive provides 345 kW (469 hp) and 645 Nm, reaching the same speed in 4.9 seconds. Top speed for both is 210 km/h. Every version has two electric motors, one on each axle, giving all-wheel drive.

The most powerful M60 xDrive will follow and can be ordered from January 2027. Its motors together produce 450 kW, or 612 hp, and 875 Nm. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, has a top speed of 240 km/h and a range of up to 777 kilometres.

Battery and charging

The model is built on an 800-volt electrical architecture and BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology. The iX4 50 xDrive uses a 108.7 kWh battery and can cover up to 828 kilometres on a single charge. DC charging power reaches 400 kW, and ten minutes of charging adds roughly 387 kilometres of range. The iX4 40 xDrive has a maximum range of up to 638 kilometres and charging power of up to 300 kW. For both models, charging from 10 to 80% takes about 21 minutes.

Dimensions and handling

The car is 4.78 metres long, 1.90 metres wide and 1.60 metres tall, with a kerb weight of roughly 2,260–2,380 kilograms depending on the version. BMW promises sporty handling thanks to adaptive suspension, a five-link rear axle and the new "Heart of Joy" control system. It combines drive and handling dynamics and works up to ten times faster than systems of the previous generation.

Interior and equipment

The cabin features a 3D head-up display for the driver, BMW Panoramic Vision spanning the full width of the dashboard, and a 17.9-inch central screen running Operating System X. Standard equipment includes the M Sport package, 20-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic glass roof. The car also supports bidirectional charging, including V2L, V2H and V2G functions.

Price

The BMW iX4 starts at 70,900 euros in Germany and will reach the market in March 2027.
