BMW speeds up new iX3 launch in the US amid strong demand
BMW has accelerated the US market launch of its electric iX3 crossover due to high demand, with the American version offering more power and extended bidirectional charging features than European models.
BMW has decided to bring its electric iX3 crossover to the US market sooner than planned, citing strong demand and widespread interest in this first model of the new Neue Klasse generation — a trend visible not only in Europe but across the Atlantic as well.
For now, only one version, the all-wheel-drive iX3 50 xDrive, will be available to American buyers. Pricing starts at 61,500 US dollars, roughly 53,600 euros. For this US-spec model, the manufacturer states a range of 383 to 434 miles (616–698 km) and 463 horsepower, enabling acceleration to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.
Technical specifications
BMW North America lists the battery capacity of the US-market car at 112.2 kWh. AC charging tops out at 15 kW, while DC charging can reach up to 400 kW. The North American version also comes with three bidirectional charging capabilities: vehicle-to-load (V2L, 2.4 kW), vehicle-to-home (V2H, 3.6 kW), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V, 7.7 kW).
Production is ramping up
Sales of the iX3 are already underway in Europe, where demand has been so strong that BMW's plant in Debrecen, Hungary, switched to three-shift operations in September. The company has received roughly 100,000 orders for the model in Europe so far. All iX3 units, including those destined for the US, are currently built exclusively in Debrecen, but from 2027 production is planned to expand to a plant in Mexico as well. A separate, longer version of the model is planned for the Chinese market.
In Latvia, a fully equipped BMW iX3 50 xDrive starts at 74,900 euros.
