BMX 'Riga Cup': Dyre gets revenge on Apels, Stūriška beats Pētersone
The second day of the UCI C1 'Riga Cup' BMX event took place at the Mežaparks track, with Denmark's Magnus Dyre winning the men's elite category and Veronika Monika Stūriška topping the women's elite field.
The Mežaparks BMX track hosted the second day of the UCI C1-category 'Riga Cup' on Sunday, drawing 355 participants. The event was organized by the BMX Rīga club, which provided a large screen for track coverage, sponsor activities, and food areas.
In the men's elite category, seven-time Danish champion Magnus Dyre won overall based on the combined result of three runs. He won the first run, beating fellow Dane Jakob Sardak and the previous day's winner, Kristers Apels. In the second run, riders trained by Edis Treimanis took the top two spots, with Apels finishing first and Edgars Langmanis second, while Dyre placed third. Sardak posted the fastest lap of the day to win the third run, ahead of Dyre and Langmanis. In the overall standings, Dyre finished first, Apels second, and Sardak third.
In the women's elite category, Vineta Pētersone dominated the first two runs, ahead of clubmate Veronika Monika Stūriška and junior rider Adelīna Kārkliņa. However, Pētersone struggled in the third run, which Stūriška won, leveling their point totals and ultimately giving Stūriška the overall victory. Pētersone finished second, with Adrija Dārta Siliņa third. Adelīna Kārkliņa won the junior women's category, while Denmark's Bolette Schlüter topped the U23 class.
In the combined U23/junior men's final, Denmark's U23 champion Jonas Idskov won, ahead of Noa Rafael Laake, who had dominated the qualifying runs, and Estonia's Toni Mugra. In the junior category, RRS/BMX Rīga riders Gustavs Puriņš and Roberts Černovs took first and second, with Rodrigo Ābols third.
Among the younger age groups, winners included Lithuania's Vytautas Šatas (B15–16), Gustavs Ģigulis (B13/14), Helvijs Rusis (B12), and Rolands Baranovskis (age 11). Melānija Čudare won the girls' G15+ category, and Emīls Jekševics topped the cruiser class.
Latvia's BMX season continues this weekend in Smiltene, where a national cup round will be held.
