Bonnie Tyler out of coma but remains in intensive care in Portugal
Welsh pop star Bonnie Tyler is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell in intensive care at a hospital in Faro, Portugal, after emergency intestinal surgery in May.

The 75-year-old singer, who underwent emergency intestinal surgery in May and was placed in an induced coma, has now regained consciousness. According to a statement on her official website, her condition is improving but the recovery process is slow.
Doctors remain confident she will make a full recovery, but Tyler is still very unwell and remains in intensive care in a hospital in Portugal. All scheduled summer concerts have been cancelled, though some autumn dates may still go ahead.
Tyler's family expressed distress over what they called “lurid and untrue rumours” circulating about her health. They thanked fans worldwide for their overwhelming support and said Tyler is aware of and grateful for the good wishes.
Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, rose to international fame in the 1980s with her chart-topping single "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which spent four weeks at No. 1 on the US charts in 1983. Her other hits include "Holding Out For a Hero," "It’s a Heartache," and "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)."
Originally from Neath in South Wales, she was discovered by a talent scout in Swansea. Tyler represented the UK at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, finishing 19th with the song "Believe in Me." In 2023, she was made an MBE for services to music.
