Boox Unveils Picco, Its Smallest E-Reader to Date
Boox has announced the Picco, a new e-reader with a 3.97-inch screen — the smallest the company has made. The $100 device is expected to ship in November.
Boox, known for compact e-readers including the popular Palma line, has announced a new device called the Picco. Preorders opened today, with shipping expected in November at a price of $100.
The Picco's screen measures just 3.97 inches, roughly the size of a playing card. That makes it smaller than the Xteink X4 Pro (4.3 inches) and only slightly larger than the Xteink X3 (3.7 inches). By comparison, the upcoming Boox Palma 3 will feature a considerably larger 6.19-inch screen.
Specifications
The Picco features a monochrome display with a resolution of 235 pixels per inch and an adjustable front light that switches between warm and cool tones. It includes a microSD card slot supporting up to 2 TB of storage, with a 16 GB card included in the box. Users can navigate via touchscreen or physical page-turning buttons located on the side of the device. The case includes a magnetic ring that allows it to attach to the back of a smartphone.
Software and Features
Boox says the Picco runs a streamlined operating system built around reading and digital utility tools. It is the first device in Boox's new product line called Tiles, which will serve as the way users access ebooks on the device. Books can be transferred via web or USB-C, as the Picco supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Beyond reading, the device includes productivity apps such as Pomodoro, Todo, and Countdown, positioning it as both an e-reader and a productivity tool.
