Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup headquartered in Lake Mary, Florida, has raised a $200 million round led by Insight Partners. Founded in 2017 by two former Department of Defense engineers — five years before the public launch of ChatGPT — the company was ahead of its time.

Spur's technology helps enterprises differentiate legitimate human users from increasingly sophisticated bot traffic, enabling them to identify fake users and threats. In a written statement, Insight's Thomas Krane noted that as criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization infrastructure proliferate, organizations are operating with a critical blind spot: they see activity but not the underlying infrastructure.

Detecting malicious traffic has long been a challenge, but the current situation is unprecedented. According to Cloudflare's latest report from last month, as of mid-2026, bots are now more active online than humans for the first time in internet history. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince commented on X that this happened faster than expected due to the rapid growth of agentic traffic.
