Brazilian Supreme Court Convicts Eduardo Bolsonaro for Seeking US Help in Father's Case
A panel of Brazil's Supreme Court has convicted Eduardo Bolsonaro for attempting to enlist US interference in the coup plot trial of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Brazil's Supreme Court Ruling
On Tuesday, a four-justice panel of Brazil's Supreme Court unanimously voted to convict Eduardo Bolsonaro. He was charged with soliciting US authorities to intervene in his father's criminal proceedings by imposing sanctions on the justices and tariffs on Brazilian goods.
Eduardo Bolsonaro, a former congressman, moved to the United States in 2025—months before the trial that convicted his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, of plotting a coup. In the US, he actively sought support, particularly from the Trump administration, to aid his father.
Following the conviction, Eduardo Bolsonaro issued a statement claiming he had not been properly notified of the legal proceedings. He has previously told Reuters that his work in the US was not aimed at securing an acquittal in Brazilian courts but rather at forcing the Supreme Court to punish officials he believes are violating Brazil's constitution.
The sentence will be determined later.
