Drivers warned of heavy traffic and pre-Midsummer congestion
On Friday afternoon, leaving Rīga will see traditional pre-Jāņi congestion and heavy traffic in the Pierīga region.

On Friday, June 19, afternoon traffic heading out of Rīga is expected to be heavy. Latvijas valsts ceļi advises drivers to allow extra time and travel outside peak hours.
On the Bauska highway, both roadways will be opened, but construction continues until early July, with possible short-term restrictions. Currently, roadworks are ongoing on 69 state road sections.
Major restrictions on the Daugavpils highway (section Gospori–Nīcgale, crossing time 40 min; Kalnišķi–Ļūbaste, 25 min; Daugavpils bypass). On the Rēzekne–Ludza–Terehova road near Ludza, speed limits apply, crossing time approx 20 min.
On regional roads (Vecpiebalga–Madona, Litene–Balvi, Bauska–Aizkraukle section Ozolaine–Bārbele, Roja–Valdemārpils), multiple traffic light sections add at least half an hour. On the Tīnūži–Koknese regional road, asphalt renewal over 48 km in two sections, also adding half an hour.
