A major fire broke out on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 1, at a trading estate in Brislington, Bristol, near Dixon Road and Emery Road, according to Bristol Live.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called at 2:27pm local time, and firefighters from nine stations — Hicks Gate, Temple, Kingswood, Avonmouth, Yate, Bath, Patchway, Bedminster and Nailsea — attended the scene.
A service spokesperson asked residents and local businesses to keep their windows and doors closed and to avoid the area if possible.
Evacuations and road closures
A Bristol Live reporter at the scene described "literally hundreds of firefighters" present, with roads closed and businesses evacuated. A roughly 100-metre cordon was put in place, Emery Road was closed, and a nearby McDonald's restaurant was evacuated.
Photos and video from the scene showed thick smoke billowing high above nearby buildings. Some reports mentioned a loud bang heard during the incident, while other accounts said people were being evacuated from the Emery Road area specifically because of possible explosions inside the building — a detail that has not been officially confirmed.
