Bristol Cathedral aisle closed after ceiling stone falls
Bristol Cathedral's south aisle has been shut for weeks after pieces of masonry fell from the ceiling, though no one was injured.
The south aisle of Bristol Cathedral, in the city centre, has been off-limits to visitors since 22 September after stone fragments were discovered on the floor beneath the ceiling.
A cathedral spokesperson said the closure is expected to last several weeks while assessments of the damaged ceiling are carried out. Workers are using a cherry picker to inspect the high ceiling and archways in the affected area.
The spokesperson confirmed that no one was nearby when the masonry fell, so no injuries were sustained. The rest of the cathedral remains open to the public as normal while the affected section is examined.
