British gymnast Joe Fraser secured gold on the high bar at the European Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb, delivering one of the most difficult routines of the finals to score 14.3. It marked his first major title on this apparatus, adding to previous Commonwealth, European and world golds he has won on the parallel bars.

The 27-year-old said he felt very proud of the achievement, crediting his coaches and family for supporting him behind the scenes.

On the parallel bars, Fraser matched his high-bar score of 14.3 to take bronze. Croatia's Illia Kovtun won gold with 14.7, while Turkey's Ferhat Arican claimed silver with 14.433.

In the high bar competition, Cyprus' Marios Georgiou took silver with 14.2, and Savelii Sieedin, who was born in Russia but is competing as a neutral athlete, won bronze with 14.066.

A new chapter for Fraser

Fraser, who had two top-five finishes at the Paris Olympics, said taking a break after the Games gave him fresh perspective. He noted that opening his own gym and the upcoming birth of his daughter have both had a positive effect on his gymnastics. He expressed excitement about competing in the team final the following day.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Sol Scott, competing at his first senior major championship, won bronze in the vault with a score of 14.199. Scott said moving up to senior European competition had been a significant step, but that support from the team had helped him achieve the result. Ukraine's Nazar Chepurnyi won gold in the vault with 14.566, while neutral athlete Aleksei Usachev took silver with 14.399.

The team final is scheduled for Sunday.
