Long-awaited British heavyweight showdown reportedly heading to New York instead of UK
According to BoxingScene, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury's fight is likely to take place in New York, United States, rather than Britain, as organisers look to reach a wider global audience.
For years, boxing fans have speculated about a meeting between two of Britain's most prominent heavyweight stars, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, but so far no concrete outcome has materialized. Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, previously said that both parties had signed a contract for the fight. Although no exact date has been set, it has been suggested the bout could take place late this year.
However, according to BoxingScene, the long-awaited clash will most likely not be held on British soil but in New York City, USA. The reported reason is a desire to attract as broad a global audience as possible. BoxingScene also said that prominent boxing figure Turki Alalshikh had set a condition for holding the fight in the UK that was very unfriendly to local fans: the fight would have to begin no earlier than 2 a.m. local time.
Both former heavyweight champions were recently in action. Fury defeated 46-year-old Polish boxer Mateusz Wacha by technical knockout, while Joshua stopped Albania's Kristian Prenga in the second round, though Joshua was knocked down twice in the opening round.
Joshua's professional record stands at 30 wins and four losses, while Fury holds a 36-2-1 record.
