Rain Zone to Cross Latvia Over Weekend, Bringing Cooler Weather
After warm and mostly dry days, a rain zone is expected to cross Latvia over the weekend, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures.

The past few days in Latvia have been warm and mostly without precipitation, and similar conditions are expected on Friday, July 17. However, the weekend will see a change as a cyclone intensifies and a rain zone crosses the country, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. Local heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible, along with gusty southerly winds.
Friday will bring variable cloud cover, with sunny weather in the east of the country. Isolated light and brief rain is possible. Winds will be light, leading to fog formation in some areas overnight. Minimum temperatures will range from +14°C to +19°C, dropping to +10°C to +14°C in the east. Daytime highs will reach +24°C to +29°C, with cooler coastal areas at +22°C to +24°C.
On Saturday, cloud cover will gradually increase as the cyclone's influence grows, but sunny spells will still occur. Overnight into Saturday, isolated rain is expected in western parts. In the afternoon, a rain zone will move in from the west, bringing rain to many areas, with heavy showers and thunderstorms possible in western and central regions. Winds will pick up from the south, gusting up to 15 m/s. Nighttime lows will be +15°C to +20°C. Saturday will still be hot, with widely +24°C to +29°C, but Sunday will see a drop to highs of only +18°C to +23°C.
Early next week, a new cyclone forming near Latvia's border will bring intermittent rain, locally prolonged and heavy. Daytime temperatures will cool further, reaching around +20°C. Northerly winds will prevail, moderate but occasionally gusty in coastal areas.
