On Sunday morning, bodies were recovered from a lake in Vecpiebalga parish, Cēsis municipality, and from a pond in Lendži parish, Rēzekne municipality. On Saturday, a person was pulled from a river in Jūrmala without signs of life. All deceased have been handed over to the State Police to determine the circumstances of death.

Rescuers remind that warm weather prompts many to head to the water, but drowning remains one of the most common tragedies during holidays. Swimming under the influence of alcohol, in unfamiliar places, or alone is especially dangerous. The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) advises choosing safe swimming spots, not overestimating one's abilities, and always supervising children near water.

Parents should be aware that being with a child near water is not relaxation but requires double effort, as children need constant attention. Even a momentary distraction from a child can lead to a major accident. When spending time on the water—boating, riding a catamaran, jet ski, or SUP board—wearing a life jacket is recommended. For children under 12, wearing a life jacket is mandatory.
