Bruģa Bumba 2026 Season Opens with Record Participation in Grobiņa
The first leg of Liepāja's street basketball championship “Bruģa Bumba 2026” in Grobiņa gathered 46 teams—ten more than last year. Winners were determined in six age groups, along with individual contest champions.
On May 30, during the Grobiņa city festival, the first of six legs of the “Bruģa Bumba 2026” season was held. This year, 46 teams competed, ten more than in the previous season's opening leg (36 teams). The increase in participants indicates a steadily growing interest in street basketball in the Liepāja region.
Age Group Winners
The U-99 men's group drew the largest response, with 15 teams. “MEŽPILS BRIGĀDE” took first place, beating “KOMANDA” in the final, while “SKAPĀNA STEAK” finished third. In the U-14 boys' group, “TAKIJS” won, followed by “NAUDA BEZ NAUDAS” and “ESPRESSO”. Among U-17 boys, “BOJAS” emerged victorious, with “BEZ BREMZĒM” second and “FLAMINGO” third. In the youngest group (U-11 boys), “FLOPERI” claimed the title ahead of “LIEPĀJAS SMUKULĪŠI” and “SALDUS LORDI”. Female participants competed in two groups: U-13 girls saw “CENTRIKI” first, “BEZ VARIANTIEM” second, and “JUNGLE POP” third; in U-99 women, “CIETĀS” dominated, followed by “BRĀĻI MINERĀĻI” and “KAZAS”.
Individual Contests
During the tournament, skill and accuracy contests took place. Matīss Ozoliņš–Pese won the skill competition with a time of 38.47 seconds, while Artūrs Klejenkovs scored 32 points to win the debut accuracy contest. Both secured a spot in the season finale.
Next Leg and Entry Fees
The second leg will be held on June 17 at 6:00 PM at the “Street Burgers” eatery near the LOC Ice Hall. Team registration takes place on the day of the event from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Entry fee for U-99 groups is €10 per team; for youth groups, it is €5. Subsequent legs are scheduled for July 1, July 22, August 5, and the final on August 19. “Bruģa Bumba” is organized with the support of the Liepāja Sports Administration.
