Brook's explosive knock powers Sunrisers to record Hundred total
Harry Brook smashed a 15-ball fifty as Sunrisers Leeds posted the highest score in The Hundred history, beating London Spirit by 37 runs.
Sunrisers Leeds set a new record total in The Hundred men's competition, amassing 241-2 at Headingley before defeating London Spirit by 37 runs. Put into bat, the home side surpassed the previous benchmark of 226 with a display of sustained power-hitting.
Openers Mitchell Marsh and Ryan Rickelton laid the platform with a 148-run stand. Marsh hammered 76 from 37 balls, while Rickelton remained unbeaten on 94 off 42 deliveries. After Marsh's departure with 35 balls remaining, Harry Brook took centre stage, reaching his fifty in just 15 balls and finishing on 55 from 18. His innings included five sixes and five fours, with a towering hit over mid-wicket taking the team past the old record.
Brook and Rickelton added 83 for the second wicket in 32 balls. Rickelton was left stranded just short of a century as he ran out of strike at the end of the innings.
London Spirit's reply unravelled immediately when Jonny Bairstow was bowled by Reece Topley with the first ball. The top order collapsed to 44-4, but former England all-rounder David Willey produced a rescue act, scoring 83 not out from 46 balls to guide the visitors to 204-6.
The victory lifts Sunrisers to fourth in the standings and keeps their play-off hopes alive. Spirit remain in seventh place.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan praised Brook's performance on BBC Two, describing it as a masterclass in white-ball batting. Vaughan highlighted Brook's brute power and his ability to read bowlers and find scoring options off every delivery.
