The fee will apply only to bags that cannot be stowed under the seat in front. If a bag fits under the seat, it will not incur an additional charge. This means that travelers who wish to use overhead bin space will need to factor in extra costs on top of their ticket price.
This move makes Jetstar the first airline in Australia to introduce such a fee. No other carrier in the country has yet imposed a separate charge for placing carry-on luggage in the overhead bin. Jetstar, already operating as a low-cost carrier, continues to expand its range of ancillary services.
