Bulgaria, hosting the men's volleyball European Championship, opened the tournament with a confident victory over North Macedonia.
Aleksandar Nikolov was the top scorer for the Bulgarian side with 19 points, also contributing two effective blocks. Denislav Bardarov added 15 points for Bulgaria.
On the opposing side, no North Macedonian player managed to reach double figures — Nikola Gjorgijev led his team with eight points.
Serving trouble
Despite celebrating the win, Bulgaria struggled with its serving, committing 21 errors across 74 serve attempts.
One player stood out in this element, however: Simeon Nikolov, who scored all seven of his points through unreturnable aces. He also made five serving errors of his own.
