Bulgaria, a European Union member state, will hold a second round of its presidential election, according to exit polls conducted among voters after they cast their ballots.
The runoff will pit the current head of state, President Iliana Yotova, against Andrey Gyurov. Yotova is backed by the governing party "Progressive Bulgaria", which the source describes as pro-Russian and Eurosceptic. Gyurov is supported by pro-Western opposition parties.
The deciding vote will therefore bring together two candidates whose supporters hold different foreign-policy orientations: one camp is sceptical of the EU and closer to Russia, the other looks towards the West.
The figures cited come from exit polls, not from official election results.
