Tsahkna: USA have been a symbol of freedom and opportunities for 250 years

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, marking US Independence Day on July 4, said that US history has always been closely linked to the ideals of freedom and the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to determine their own future. According to the minister, these same principles form the foundation of bilateral relations between Estonia and the United States.

Tsahkna noted that the Tallinn TV Tower was illuminated in the colors of the US flag to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. "This is a symbolic gesture, as for many Estonians, the TV tower recalls turning points in our struggle for independence and freedom," the minister said.

The foreign minister emphasized that the US has been a reliable ally of Estonia since its re-independence. "The consistent US policy of non-recognition of the annexation of the Baltic states helped preserve the principle of legal continuity of the Estonian state. After the restoration of independence, strong allied relations with the US became one of the most important foundations of Estonia's security and freedom," Tsahkna stated.

He added that security cooperation and increasingly active economic ties continue to play a significant role in the partnership between Estonia and the US. The Tallinn TV Tower was lit in the colors of the US flag to mark this important milestone.
