Cardiff boss Barry-Murphy confident ahead of Wrexham derby test
Cardiff City manager Omer Riza Barry-Murphy says his side can surprise people this season as they prepare for a south-north Welsh derby against Wrexham on 17 August.
Cardiff City head coach Barry-Murphy has struck an optimistic tone ahead of the new season, saying that while the campaign brings uncertainty for many at the club, his players have the hunger to build on last season's performance.
The Bluebirds face an early test of that ambition when Welsh rivals Wrexham travel to the Cardiff City Stadium on 17 August for a south-north derby. Barry-Murphy, a former Manchester City academy coach, said he could not say for certain whether Cardiff would complete any further signings before that fixture.
So far this summer, Lincoln City midfielder Jack Moylan remains the club's only outfield signing. Barry-Murphy said he preferred not to speculate on transfer timing, insisting the squad's focus is entirely on preparing for Monday's match without distractions.
On team news, the coach indicated that injured Wales forward Rubin Colwill could be available to face Wrexham, though fellow Wales international Dylan Lawlor is unlikely to be fit in time for the derby.
