Musicians Emīls Kaupers, Edgars Kaupers, Roberts Vanags and Kristiāns Kosītis of the band Carnival Youth have shared details about the creation of their latest work, "Labākā doma pasaulē" ("The Best Idea in the World"), on Latvian Radio 5's programme "Izstāsti albumu" ("Tell the Album"). This marks the band's first full-length original recording in the Latvian language.

A long and demanding process

According to the musicians, making the album took several years. Nearly a hundred demo recordings were produced along the way, and many songs went through countless versions before reaching their final form. Work on the album even took the band far from home — from Kuldīga in Latvia all the way to Cambodia.

Finding the words and a fairy-tale theme

In the interview, the band describes how Latvian-language lyrics gradually took shape for the music, a process that unfolded slowly over time. The album also incorporates a fairy-tale world as a thematic framework for the band's storytelling.

A coming-of-age story and award nomination

The band members reveal that the songs on the album, which has been nominated for the Austra Award, reflect their own personal story of growing up. The full conversation is available on Latvian Radio 5's "Izstāsti albumu" programme.
