Carse omitted from England squad for third Pakistan Test
England have left seamer Brydon Carse out of their squad for the final Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, with the player still under police investigation over an alleged assault following an incident outside a Derby nightclub. Sonny Baker keeps his place in the 15-man party.
England have dropped Durham seamer Brydon Carse from their squad for the third and final Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston. The 31-year-old was already left out for the second Test at Lord's after being briefly arrested following an incident outside a Derby nightclub on 22 August. Derbyshire police say Carse remains under investigation over allegations of assault.
Carse's replacement, 23-year-old Sonny Baker, has kept his spot in England's 15-man squad. Surrey's Matthew Fisher has been dropped, while the rest of the squad remains unchanged as England look to complete a series clean sweep over Pakistan. The third Test in Birmingham begins on Wednesday, 9 September.
With six white-ball matches against Sri Lanka following the Test series, England could rest seamers Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue, all of whom are also involved in the limited-overs squad. Although the trio have been named in the Test party, they may be rotated in favour of Baker, Essex pace bowler Sam Cook and Derbyshire spinner Shoaib Bashir.
Carse remains available for Durham and took match figures of 4-95 in last week's win over Gloucestershire, though he was left out of the team's match against Northamptonshire, which started on Wednesday.
Pakistan have also made major changes ahead of the Edgbaston Test, dropping seven players, calling up five uncapped players and releasing their head coach. Sarfaraz Ahmed has been replaced by white-ball coach Mike Hesson.
England won the first Test at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs and secured the series with a 194-run victory at Lord's last week.
