Czech league: Jaks scores and assists, but Krastenbergs' team takes the points

Two Latvian hockey players faced off on Sunday in the Czech Extraliga, as Litvínov's Verva fell 4:5 to Česke Budejovice's Motor.

Verva defenseman Jānis Jaks had a productive game, scoring a power-play goal in the second period that put his team ahead 3:2 at the time. In the third period, Jaks added an assist on a goal by Petr Koblasa, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. Jaks played more than 21 minutes, fired four shots on goal, and blocked one shot, finishing with a neutral plus-minus rating. On the winning side, Renārs Krastenbergs played just under 13 minutes.

In another Sunday game, Fēlikss Gavars scored a shorthanded goal for Mlada Boleslav early in the second period, but the team lost 2:6 on the road to Vítkovice's Ridera. Gavars played just over 15 minutes and finished with a positive plus-minus rating.

Wins also went to Ralfs Freibergs' Olomouc, which beat Kladno's Rytíři 4:1, and Kristiāns Rubīns' Škoda Plzeň, which defeated Hradec Králové's Mountfield 2:1. Meanwhile, Kristaps Zīle's Liberec Bílí Tygři lost 1:3 to Třinec's Ocelářи.

Among the teams featuring Latvian players, Krastenbergs' Motor currently sits highest in the standings, having collected ten points from five games to rank third among 14 teams.
