Champions League: PSG, Barcelona and Arsenal in action tonight, Viking make their debut
In the UEFA Champions League's first round tonight, PSG host Slovan Bratislava, Barcelona face Feyenoord, and Arsenal take on Napoli. Norway's Viking will make their competition debut away at Stuttgart.
Several notable matches are on the schedule tonight in the first round of the UEFA Champions League. Two-time champions PSG began their season by winning the UEFA Super Cup, but have struggled domestically, going without a win in four French league and cup matches and now trailing leaders Monaco by seven points. Tonight the Paris club hosts Slovan Bratislava, which is making its second Champions League appearance in three seasons and is also losing ground domestically.
Barcelona and Arsenal keep winning
Meanwhile Spanish and English champions Barcelona and Arsenal have both won all their opening matches. The Catalan club, led by an in-form Rafinha, has scored 17 goals in three matches and currently leads Real Madrid by three points. Barcelona will host Dutch runners-up Feyenoord tonight. Arsenal, fresh off a convincing win over Manchester City in the English Super Cup, will host Italian runners-up Napoli, who have lost their last two matches in a row.
Norwegian debutants
Tonight also marks the first-ever Champions League appearance for Norway's Viking, who travel to face Stuttgart. Viking returned to the top of Norwegian football after a 34-year gap and eliminated Dinamo Zagreb in the play-off round, but have since lost their domestic league lead and now trail Bodo/Glimt by three points.
Another notable fixture pits Liverpool against Atletico Madrid for the second consecutive season. Last year Atletico overturned a two-goal deficit, only for Liverpool to score a late winner in stoppage time. Both clubs finished outside the top three in their domestic leagues last season.
