The 20th Cēsis Art Festival will open this weekend, running until late August. Its visual arts program emphasizes the role of art in today's world, featuring three main exhibitions.

At Cēsis New Castle, Amanda Ziemele's solo exhibition "On the Second Floor" presents new large-format paintings created specifically for the festival. Ziemele's works interact with the historic space's light and interior.

At the concert hall "Cēsis" gallery, the artist group Famous Five (Līga Marcinkeviča, Ieva Rubeze, Mārtiņš Ratniks) will present their object "Time Will Show," a canonical piece of Latvian contemporary art in the LNMA collection, exploring the illusion of beauty.

In Pils Square, an international environmental object cycle "raising flags" will be installed, created in collaboration with the Viennese institution museum in progress. It features ten flags by international artists, including Krišs Salmanis, turning flags into a platform for artistic expression and public dialogue.

Key anniversary events include concert performances of Richard Wagner's opera "Lohengrin" on August 6 and 8, and Leonard Bernstein's operetta "Candide" on August 15 and 16. In autumn, two theater performances from the "Grand Prix" program – "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "Alfas" – will be staged.
