On Wednesday, August 20, officers from the State Police Vidzeme regional department received a report that the driver of an Audi in Cēsis might be under the influence of alcohol.

Upon spotting a police vehicle, the driver did not stop but instead attempted to flee, significantly exceeding the speed limit. In an area where the limit was 50 km/h, the car reportedly reached speeds of up to 132 km/h.

Police later managed to stop and inspect the vehicle. Inside the car, officers found a greenish-brown substance of unknown origin resembling marijuana.

As a result of the incident, the State Police have opened a criminal case as well as five administrative violation proceedings. The circumstances of the incident are still being investigated.
