The city of Cēsis has held a festive reopening ceremony for its renovated Pilsētas Secondary School, giving residents a chance to view the rebuilt premises before students return to classes tomorrow.

The school underwent a complete reconstruction aimed at creating a modern, safe and energy-efficient environment for both students and teachers. During the works, the building's main utility systems were renewed, including ventilation, heating, electricity and water supply. The kitchen facilities were also rebuilt, structural repairs were carried out, and interior finishes were fully renewed throughout the building.

A process requiring patience

Cēsis Municipal Council chairman Jānis Rozenbergs said reaching today's result required patience from students and teachers alike, as well as from everyone involved in the construction work.

Students already using part of the building

Students in grades 1 through 6 began attending classes in the renovated premises back in January this year, while students in grades 7 through 12 had continued studying in a separate building on Lielā Skolas iela 6 in the meantime. With the reconstruction now complete, the school can accommodate students of all grades under one roof.

Funding

The reconstruction was carried out under the project "Improving the Energy Efficiency of Cēsis Pilsētas Secondary School," co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Cēsis municipal government. The project's total cost reached 3.5 million euros, of which slightly more than 2 million euros came from EU funding, while the municipality contributed 1.4 million euros.
