Cēsis Cemetery Included in List of Significant Cemeteries in Europe
The historic cemetery of Cēsis has been added to the list of significant cemeteries in Europe, becoming the first in Latvia to receive this recognition.
The Management Committee of the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe (ASCE) announced in Turin, Italy, that the historic town cemetery of Cēsis has been included in its list. This makes it the first and currently only cemetery in Latvia to receive such international accreditation.
The inclusion highlights the cemetery's cultural and historical importance, as it joins a network of other notable European cemeteries recognized as heritage sites. The recognition underscores the significance of the Cēsis cemetery not only for the local community but also as a valuable cultural asset at the European level.
