Four Traffic Accidents in Estonia Leave Seven Hospitalized, 22 Drivers Caught for Intoxication

Over the past day, Estonia recorded four road accidents resulting in injuries, with seven people taken to hospital. Police also stopped 22 drivers suspected of alcohol or drug impairment.

Over the last 24 hours, Estonian police reported four traffic incidents that caused injuries. In addition, 22 drivers were removed from the road for suspected drunk or drugged driving, according to the police morning summary released on Wednesday.

The first accident occurred on June 23 at 1:03 a.m. in Peipsiääre parish, Tartu County. A 38-year-old woman driving a Suzuki SX4 swerved into a ditch to avoid a collision. Two passengers, women aged 85 and 50, were taken to hospital for medical checks.

The second crash happened at 4:49 p.m. in Ilvese village, Saarde parish, Pärnu County. A 59-year-old woman driving a Nissan Qashqai left the road and hit a tree. The driver was hospitalized.

At 11:16 p.m., a collision was reported in Päri village, Lääne-Nigula parish, Lääne County. On the 19th kilometer of the Risti–Virtsu–Kuivastu–Kuressaare highway, a 21-year-old man driving a Volkswagen Golf struck a moose that had run onto the road. After the impact, the driver lost control, the car went into a ditch and overturned. The driver and two passengers, a 23-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, were taken to hospital.

At 11:22 p.m., the emergency center was alerted to an accident on Lammassaare Street in Aruküla settlement, Harju County. A 15-year-old youth riding a Derbi Senda moped without a valid driver's license and showing signs of intoxication ignored a police stop signal. During the pursuit, he crashed into a police car. The moped driver was hospitalized.
