Rain and stronger winds expected in Latvia on Thursday
After a warm, even record-breaking Wednesday, Latvia is forecast to see cloudy weather with rain showers and strengthening winds on Thursday, along with falling temperatures.

Thursday morning in Latvia began cloudy, with rain across most of the country and heavier downpours in parts of Kurzeme. Morning temperatures ranged from +13 to +17 degrees, while Riga saw overcast skies with light rain and temperatures around +14 to +15 degrees. A slow to moderate south to southwest wind was blowing, with coastal gusts up to 14 meters per second, and air quality was rated good.
Heat records set on Wednesday
On Wednesday, air temperatures across the country ranged from +19.9 degrees in Kolka to +27.4 degrees in Bauska, with eight monitoring stations of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre breaking their September 9 heat records.
Rain and gusty winds forecast for the day
Meteorologists forecast intermittent rain for Thursday, with thunderstorms possible in places, while sunshine is expected to break through the clouds in the western part of the country later in the day. Daytime highs will not exceed +15 to +18 degrees, with temperatures possibly dropping to +11 degrees in areas experiencing rain.
Wind gusts in the western and central parts of the country may reach 12-17 meters per second, and up to 21 meters per second along Kurzeme's western coast. Riga can expect changeable weather with intermittent rain and clearing spells, with highs of +17 to +18 degrees. During the day, southerly gusts in the capital will strengthen to 12 meters per second, while southwesterly gusts of up to 15 meters per second are expected in the evening. The weather is being shaped by a low-pressure area, with sea-level atmospheric pressure between 1004 and 1008 hectopascals.
