Dry, warm weather expected in Latvia on Thursday, with rain and gusty winds to follow at the weekend

Thursday, 8 October, will be dry in Latvia, with daytime temperatures reaching up to +20 degrees. A cyclone approaching late in the week will bring rain and strong wind, especially along the coast.

On Thursday, 8 October, clouds and sunny spells will alternate across Latvia, and no precipitation is expected. According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, light winds may bring fog in places overnight, while during the day a light to moderate easterly and southeasterly wind will blow.

Overnight temperatures will fall to between +3 and +8 degrees, with some spots on the Gulf coast staying around +10. In the daytime it will be pleasantly warm, with the thermometer rising to +15...+20 degrees.

A cyclone arrives at the end of the week

A new cyclone will approach Latvia from the west. As a result, skies will often be cloudy with the sun appearing only occasionally, and rain is expected in many areas. On Friday, heavy rain is possible in parts of Kurzeme and Vidzeme.

On Friday the wind will be moderate to fairly strong, southeasterly and southerly, later shifting to southwesterly and westerly. At night, gusts on the coast will reach 15–19 m/s. From the morning the wind will strengthen across the country, with gusts of 16–21 m/s, and in the afternoon as much as 25–27 m/s on the coast.

Gusty wind will persist into the start of Saturday night, then turn southwesterly and southerly and gradually ease. During the day, coastal gusts will reach up to 15 m/s.

Temperatures

On Friday, temperatures will remain between +9 and +14 degrees both day and night. Weekend nights will be slightly cooler, while daytime highs will reach +10...+14 degrees.

At the start of the new working week, sunny spells will often alternate with clouds, and almost all regions will see rain at some point. Temperatures will change little and stay similar to those at the weekend.
