ChatGPT adds virtual clothing try-on feature
OpenAI has introduced a feature that lets ChatGPT generate images of users virtually trying on clothes, using its newest image model and letting people save items for later.

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT's shopping capabilities by adding a virtual try-on feature that generates images of users wearing clothing items based on uploaded photos. The concept mirrors a feature Google introduced to Search in 2025, which similarly let users upload a photo to visualize themselves in different outfits.
The feature can be accessed anywhere a clothing product listing appears within a ChatGPT conversation. Users tap on an item of clothing, select "Try on," and then upload a selfie along with a full-body photo. The tool isn't limited to items ChatGPT surfaces itself — any uploaded screenshot of clothing could theoretically be used to generate a try-on image.
Built on a new image model
OpenAI says the feature relies on ChatGPT Images 2.5, the image-generation model the company released in September. Alongside virtual try-ons, users can now also save products they like to a Library within the app to revisit later.
The usual caution around uploading images to ChatGPT still applies: by default, images uploaded from a personal account may be used for training unless users opt out.
While OpenAI isn't an online marketplace on the scale of Amazon, it has begun taking a cut of certain transactions completed through its Instant Checkout feature and also offers in-chat ads that merchants can use to promote products. Neither revenue stream appears large enough to offset the company's massive AI training and operating costs, but the steady rollout of shopping features over the past year suggests OpenAI believes this area could eventually matter financially.
