ChatGPT's task scheduling tool now available to free accounts
OpenAI has opened up its upgraded ChatGPT task scheduling feature to free account holders and added the ability to share scheduled tasks with others. Paid subscribers can now also trigger prompts automatically based on activity in Gmail, Slack and GitHub.
OpenAI is widening access to one of ChatGPT's more practical tools — the ability to schedule reminders and recurring prompts. A feature previously reserved for paying customers is now available to users on free accounts as well.
From paid perk to universal access
Back in June, OpenAI added a dedicated section to the ChatGPT sidebar to make it easier for users to notice they could schedule prompts through the chatbot. At the same time, the company improved the ability to track and edit those scheduled requests. Initially, this hub and its expanded scheduling capabilities were limited to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise customers. Now, anyone with a free account can access the scheduling menu as well.
Sharing scheduled tasks with others
OpenAI has also introduced the ability for users to share their scheduled tasks with other people. That means if someone comes up with a clever way to use the feature, they can pass that setup along so others can adapt it to their own workflows.
Automatic prompts for paid users
Starting today, paid subscribers can configure ChatGPT to automatically trigger a prompt whenever something happens in their Gmail, Slack or GitHub accounts. This capability is being rolled out to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users.
OpenAI points to several possible uses for scheduled tasks, such as setting up travel alerts ahead of an upcoming trip or getting notified when new movies and shows are added to favorite streaming services. The company also suggests users could have the chatbot summarize the day's news each morning.
