Cirkins leaves Sunderland, joins QPR

Footballer Cirkins, regarded as a possible future addition to the Latvian national team, is changing clubs in England. The 24-year-old announced in early June that he would not continue his career at Sunderland after his contract with the club expired this summer.

Time at Sunderland

Cirkins joined Sunderland in 2021, when the club was playing in England's third tier. Last year he was among the players who helped the club return to the Premier League. In the season just finished, Sunderland placed seventh in the Premier League and secured qualification for the UEFA Europa League's main tournament.

Overall, Cirkins made 126 appearances for Sunderland and scored eight goals. However, his playing time dropped sharply in the most recent season, during which he featured in only eight matches.

New club QPR

After leaving Sunderland, Cirkins has joined QPR. Last season, QPR finished 15th in England's second tier out of 24 competing clubs. The club announced the move on social media platform X, posting a message noting the player's return to the capital.

Cirkins is considered one of the footballers who could potentially strengthen the Latvian national team in the future.
