Claude voice mode now available for Opus and Sonnet models
Anthropic expands Claude’s voice mode to its more powerful Opus and Sonnet models, adds nine new languages, and integrates with popular apps like Gmail, Slack, and Canva.
Anthropic has announced the expansion of voice mode for its AI assistant Claude. Previously, voice mode was only available for the faster but less capable Haiku model. Now, the more advanced Opus and Sonnet models also support voice interaction.
When Anthropic launched voice mode last year, it was primarily designed for quick answers to simple questions. However, the company noted that users quickly began using it for more complex tasks, such as working through real business problems. The Haiku model was not suitable for deep conversations, as it kept exchanges brief and often superficial.
The Opus and Sonnet models are built for hard problem-solving. They can deliver complex responses and analysis, and also take actions on behalf of the user. For example, they can turn a conversation into a one-page pitch or reschedule calendar appointments if a train is running late. Users can switch seamlessly between text and voice mode mid-conversation, and even change models — for instance, starting with Haiku for a quick idea check and then moving to Opus for deeper exploration.
Anthropic is also expanding language support for voice mode. Until now, languages other than English were only available in beta, but now voice mode officially supports French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. Additionally, voice mode is now integrated into apps like Gmail, Slack, and Canva.
