Commodore drops price of its retro phone by $100 ahead of preorders
Commodore has reduced the price of its Callback 8020 retro flip phone by $100 to $399, just before preorders open on June 30.

Commodore, known for its vintage computers, has announced a price cut for its upcoming retro flip phone. The Commodore Callback 8020 will now start at $399 instead of the previously announced $500 when preorders open on June 30. The price drop applies to the BASIC Beige, ProtoPET White, SX Silver, and translucent blue Starlight Edition models. However, the premium Founders Edition, featuring 24-karat gold plating, remains at $640.
To achieve the lower price, Commodore has adjusted the phone's default configuration. The baseline models will no longer include Hi-Def IEM earphones by default and will ship with a secondhand memory chip instead of a new one. The one-year warranty remains unchanged. Both the earphones and the premium (new) memory chip will be available as optional upgrades at additional cost.
In a blog post, the company explained that the change came in response to customer feedback. 'The worldwide response to the Commodore Callback has been an incredible endorsement of our vision,' the company wrote. 'Alongside that excitement, many of you told us you wanted a more accessible entry point. We listened.' The price cut stands in contrast to recent price increases from companies like Apple and Xbox.
