Coventry City, back in the Premier League after promotion, have strengthened their attack by signing 19-year-old forward Sidiki Cherif from Turkish club Fenerbahce on a long-term contract.

Born in Guinea, Cherif moved to France at the age of five and began his football career there. He made his professional debut for Angers in the 2023-24 season, and the club earned promotion to Ligue 1 in 2024. This season, the young striker started to make a real impact, scoring four Ligue 1 goals by the end of December, which drew interest from several European clubs.

Before his move to Turkey, Cherif had joined Fenerbahce on loan from Angers with an obligation to buy. He finished his Turkish Super Lig season with two goals in 12 appearances. He has also gained experience in the Uefa Europa League and this season's Uefa Champions League qualifiers.

Cherif expressed excitement about joining Coventry and playing in the Premier League, saying he is looking forward to showing supporters what he can do and to playing at the club's stadium.

The move is part of a strong summer window for Coventry boss Frank Lampard, with the club also completing significant deals for players including Caleb Yirenkyi, Carl Rushworth, Loum Tchaouna, Aurele Amenda and Taiwo Awoniyi, alongside a return to the club for Gustavo Hamer.

Cherif has previously represented France at Under-16 and Under-21 level.
