Zuckerberg predicts billions will have personal AI agents in five years
Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg told investors that within five years, billions of people will use personal AI agents for finances, health, and household tasks. Meanwhile, Meta's stock dropped nearly 10% after earnings, and free cash flow plummeted 91% year-over-year due to heavy AI investments.

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg predicted on Wednesday's quarterly earnings call that billions of people will have their own personal AI agents within the next five years. These agents would work around the clock to understand users' goals and help achieve them in areas like finance, health, interpersonal relationships, and household management.
Zuckerberg emphasized that as people interact with multiple agents, messaging platforms like WhatsApp will become increasingly important. He noted that WhatsApp is already the leading platform for user interactions with Meta AI.
Meta's financial results, however, painted a mixed picture. The company's stock fell nearly 10% after the earnings report. Meta's Reality Labs, responsible for AR glasses, VR headsets, and related software, lost approximately $4.6 billion in the quarter, consistent with losses since 2021, now totaling around $88 billion.
Free cash flow dropped to $784 million, down 91% from $8.55 billion in the same quarter last year, driven by investments in AI infrastructure. This week, Meta and BlackRock announced a partnership to build a $14 billion data center in El Paso, Texas.
Zuckerberg believes that selling intelligence will yield higher margins than selling compute directly, but there is a big opportunity in compute sales as well. He sees personal agents as the foundation for Meta's next wave of products and revenue. Currently, over one million businesses have adopted Meta's business agents on WhatsApp and Messenger, but convincing consumers to adopt AI agents may be harder. The path to billions of users starts somewhere.
