Māris Zviedris, chairman of Latvia's Central Election Commission (CEC), said in an interview with Latvian Television's programme "Viens pret vienu" that the upcoming 15th Saeima elections will go ahead regardless of whether electricity is available on election day.

According to Zviedris, the voting process will be ensured even in the event of a power outage, allowing residents to cast their ballots.

Timing of the elections

The 15th Saeima elections are scheduled for early October. The CEC chairman emphasized that the commission is prepared to guarantee continuity of the voting process even under unforeseen circumstances, including situations where the electricity supply could be disrupted.

The interview did not go into detail about specific technical solutions or plans for how voting would be conducted in the absence of electricity.
