Dungeons & Dragons has a long history of franchise crossovers, and now it is launching its most ambitious multiverse initiative yet, starting with a World of Warcraft expansion. Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced that D&D: World of Warcraft, a new sourcebook bringing Blizzard’s Azeroth setting into the tabletop RPG, will be released on November 17th.

A D&D / Star Wars collaboration has also been confirmed, set during the Rebellion era of the franchise. Few details are available, but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2027.

Both projects are part of the "D&D Universes Beyond" initiative, which aims to build on the success of the Universes Beyond series that WotC launched for Magic: The Gathering in 2021. While the crossover has received mixed reactions from Magic fans, the card game remains one of the few franchises that isn’t losing money for Hasbro, WotC’s parent company.

D&D: World of Warcraft uses the revised 5th Edition Player’s Handbook as its foundation and includes rules for all 13 World of Warcraft classes. It also introduces new spells, magic items, and professions, along with 11 new playable species and six additional subclasses. These include the Oath of the Ebon Blade and Oath of the Holy for paladins, a Demon Hunter Ranger, Shadow Domain and Discipline Domain for clerics, and the Path of the Elements for barbarians.
