Dacia unveils new Spring: an electric car under €18,000
Dacia has presented the next-generation Spring electric car, which will now be built in Europe instead of China and is targeted at a starting price below €18,000. Orders open on September 15.
Dacia has revealed the next generation of its Spring model, staying true to the brand's core concept of simple, affordable electric mobility. The biggest change concerns where the car is built: while the previous Spring was manufactured in China, the new generation will be produced in Europe, specifically at the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia, which also builds the Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric.
The new Spring is closely related to the Twingo, as both share Renault Group's RG EV Small platform. This allows the two models to use common electric motors and components, helping keep costs down.
Size and practicality
The car has grown in size, now measuring about 3.85 meters in length (15 cm more than before) and 1.74 meters in width (an increase of 18 cm). The cabin offers four full seats, boot capacity ranges from 337 to 1,283 liters, and there's an additional 18-liter storage compartment under the front hood.
Technical specifications
The car features an LFP battery of roughly 27.5 kWh paired with an 80-horsepower electric motor driving the front wheels. WLTP range is rated at up to 260 km. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 12.1 seconds, with a top speed of 130 km/h. Standard AC charging power is 7–11 kW, while an optional DC fast-charging capability of up to about 50 kW allows a 15–80% charge in roughly half an hour. The model also supports V2L technology, letting the car's battery power external devices.
Dacia's main focus remains price: the company is targeting a starting price below €18,000, which would make the Spring one of the cheapest full electric cars available in Europe. The manufacturer emphasizes that the model avoids unnecessary costly features, focusing instead on efficiency and everyday practicality. Orders for the new Spring will open on September 15.
